Every year, the IRC produces an information guide to the Irish education system for people seeking protection, with refugee status, or permission to remain. This is a guide for people over the age of 18 - generally called further education, higher education or third level education.
MASI is a platform for asylum seekers to join together in unity and purpose. MASI seeks justice, freedom and dignity for all asylum seekers.
They hold weekly Zoom meetings every Tuesday for international protection applicants to engage with others throughout the country, and offer information on the asylum process including how to prepare for interviews. They also invite guests from various fields of interest, e.g. education, employment, sponsorship, mental health, complaints handling, confidence building, etc. For more information, contact info@masi.ie.
The International Protection Student Scheme (for Further and Higher Education Students) provides financial grants for students who are in the protection system or at the leave to remain (but not deportation order) stage.
Resources for DCU Students
The DCU Student Assistance Fund provides financial support to students who are experiencing short or long-term financial difficulties while attending higher education. Applications are open in November and February
If you have any concerns about your studies or are struggling with assignments, Student Learning facilitates workshops, tutor sessions, and meetings with study skills specialists.
DCU is home to Ireland’s only dedicated interfaith centre at third level. The centre is located on the Glasnevin campus is equipped with ablution facilities, dedicated prayer rooms for men and women and hosts Jumah Prayers and Eid feasts and various times of the year. It also has microwaves and tea/coffee facilities available for all students.
