Micro-credential and Professional Development Courses
At the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health, a variety of contemporary practice focused professional development and micro-credential courses have been developed to respond to the educational needs of nurses and other healthcare professionals. Some are in partnership with healthcare institutions, the HSE and both statutory and voluntary sector organisations.
The University does not refund application or registration fees for professional development courses, however, students can defer their registration to the next available sitting, except in the case of micro-credential courses where there is no availability for a deferred entry.
Micro-credential Courses
Surgical Skills for Healthcare Practitioners (NUR1121, Level 9 Micro-credential)
All applicants must be employed in a clinical environment that affords them the requisite learning opportunities to satisfy module assessment requirements, applicants must indicate their clinical base at the point of application and successful applicants will be required to provide a completed Engagement Agreement, which will be requested post-application.
This module will introduce participants to the core skills needed to perform minor surgical procedures in a variety of healthcare settings. Further information and application procedure is available in the course summary.
Person-centred Dementia Champions (NUR1105, Level 8 Micro-credential)

Professional Development Courses
Contemporary Issues in Child & Adolescent Mental Health (HEA1036)
The module is suitable to individuals from across different disciplines, including, but not limited to health and social care professionals, educationalists, youth workers, Garda Siochana and related areas such as those working in community, voluntary and non-governmental organisations. Trauma Informed Practice in Health and Social Care (HEA1033, Level 9)

Palliative and End-of-Care Life

This course is aimed at practitioners who interact with people with palliative care needs in all care settings. It covers core themes such as recognition and holistic assessment of palliative care needs, person centred approaches to management of symptoms, communication skills and ethical decision making. Adult Physical Assessment and Intervention

Children's Neuroscience Care

Care of Children with Renal Disease

This module will further the student’s practical knowledge and skills in the nursing care and management of children and families affected by renal disease in childhood.
