Dr. Eilish McLoughlin a recipient of the Lise Meitner Medal
The School of Physical Sciences, DCU, is delighted to congratulate Dr. Eilish McLoughlin on being chosen to be a recipient of the Lise Meitner Medal and Prize of the Institute of Physics (IoP) for "...her leadership of large scale national initiatives which widen participation in physics in Ireland through formal and informal actions, including Physics Busking, Science on Stage and Improving Gender Balance." The formal award will be made in November in London. (https://twitter.com/PhysicsNews)
Dr. McLoughlin is incredibly active, committed and engaged with activities directed towards public engagement within physics and she is greatly respected for these activities. Hence she is an outstanding recipient of an IoP medal whose specific focus is to reward distinguished contributions in this area (http://www.iop.org/about/awards/subject/widening-participation-public-e…).
These IoP medals are major international awards across the entire UK and Ireland and Eilish is now the member of a small and distinguished group of Irish physicists to have received one (including notable luminaries such as Jocelyn Bell-Burnell, John Stewart Bell and others).
Please join us in congratulating Eilish on this outstanding achievement.
