Enterprise Engagement – examples and opportunities
- CASTeL provides training and consultancy services for science and mathematics education.
- The Microsystems Research Group has deep expertise with integrated, automated, microfluidic ‘lab-on-a-chip’ systems for biomedical point-of-care diagnostics and on-site applications in life sciences. We are keen to collaborate with companies and organisation interested in bringing these systems into clinical practice in order to improve health and health care.
- The Materials Growth and Characterisation Group has worked with several enterprises:
- SolarPrint: Professor Professor Enda McGlynn worked with this firm through the FORME research cluster, which examined nanostructured metal oxide growth for dye-sensitised solar cells and nanopatterned metal layers for transparent conductive coatings.
- Glebe Scientific: Professor McGlynn worked with this company on high resolution electron microscopy studies of metal oxide nanostructures.
- Intel: Professor Greg Hughes works with the component research division in Oregon, investigating copper diffusion barrier layer formation on prototype dielectric materials.
- Dr. Rob O'Connor, Prof. Greg Hughes & Prof. Enda McGlynn have an SFI-funded SPOKE project in collaboration with Intel and AMBER, TCD, on selected area deposition.
- The Plasma Research Laboratory has been developing Engineering-Physics solutions for modern high-tech manufacturing of advanced surfaces:
- In conjunction with several leading Integrated-Circuit manufacturers, the PRL has developed plasma diagnostics for pulsed plasma systems including negative-ion measurements which change local and global plasma behaviour.
- In conjunction with several leading Semiconductor and Industrial equipment suppliers, the PRL has developed novel plasma source technology that offers enhanced chemical productivity and scalability to large-area systems.
If you would like to do a research collaboration with any of the Research Groups in the School of Physics, you should first contact the School’s Research Convenor. If you have an idea for a commercial collaboration, you could first contact DCU’s Invent Innovation and Enterprise unit.
