Seminar 10th October - Physics in Cancer Research

The next Physics seminar will take place next week, Thursday 10/10 at N115, 16.00 on the subject of physics in cancer research. Further details below.

Speaker: David Robert Grimes, Gray Institute for Radiation Biology, Oxford University (DCU Physics graduate)

Title: Physics in cancer research - A Brief Overview

Abstract: Since the discovery of X-rays in the late 1800s, physicists have played a pivotal role in cancer research, from theoretical analysis to front-line treatment and all points between. Medical physics emcompasses a vast array of disciplines such as applied physics, advanced engineers, mathematical modeling, functional imaging, nuclear physics, quantum mechanics and much more besides. The interface between physics and biology is both complex and fascinating, and physics is at the heart of the advances in diagnostic and treatments advances. This talk will explore some of these facets, and discuss the work of the Gray institute for radiation biology.
