Marie Sinnott Biography
Marie Sinnott is ESB Group Company Secretary, supporting the Chairman, Board, CEO and executive management in their strategic, governance and compliance responsibilities. As a member of ESB’s Executive Director team, Marie is involved in setting the vision and values that underpin ESB’s strategy for the transition to a low carbon energy future as well as overseeing the ongoing delivery of results.
Previously, Marie was ESB’s Group Head of Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management responsible for developing and leading the critical risk and crisis management processes for ESB Group, providing assurance to, and supporting the Audit and Risk Committee on risk matters. She has represented ESB at the National Emergency Management Committee, lectured on a number of Risk Management Modules (UCD and DCU) and spoken at industry and professional bodies’ events on the topic of enterprise risk and crisis management. During her career in ESB, Marie has held a number of other senior management roles in project management, change management and procurement areas.
Marie has an in-depth understanding of the relevant public sector codes and their practical application and an appreciation of the wide-ranging risks, current and emerging, facing organisations providing critical and sensitive services. She has extensive stakeholder management experience at senior levels across business and public sector organisations.
Marie was an external member on the DCU Governing Authority Risk Management Committee from 2016 and contributed to building DCU’s risk management processes, culture, competencies and capability.
A UCD commerce graduate, she holds an MSc in Economic Policy Studies from TCD and a Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Governance from UCD Smurfit School. Marie is also a member of the Board of the Institute of International & European Affairs.
