Research Information

The School of Electronic Engineering (EE) provides a dynamic and friendly research environment in both established and groundbreaking areas of electronic, information and communications technology research. The School currently has over 70 research postgraduate students working in modern well-equipped key technology laboratories; much of the research involves wide ranging national and international collaboration.

Since its foundation in 1980 the School has been successful in attracting national and international funding for its work. Typically such funding has come, or comes, from: private industry, Programmes of Advanced Technology (PAT), Enterprise Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET), Health Research Board (HRB), National Rehabilitation Board (NRB), Charitable Foundations, Higher Education Authority's Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions (PRTLI) and EU programmes.

The School focuses its research activities into four main thrusts. Prospective postgraduate students should refer to the specific research group¡¯s web page or email address for additional up-to-date information on the work carried out and the research opportunities currently available:

• Signal and Image Processing
• Systems and Control
• Telecommunications
   

The School of Electronic Engineering also participates in research through a number of interdisciplinary research centres. These include:

• National Centre for Plasma Science and Technology (NCPST)
   
• National Centre for Sensor Research (NCSR)
   
• National Biophotonics and Imaging Platform Ireland

Postgraduate Research Applications

General information on making a Postgraduate Research application is available from the Graduate Studies Office.

All postgraduate research applications made for commencement BEFORE 1st September 2024 will be processed through the DCU student application portal.

All postgraduate research applications made for commencement AFTER 1st September 2024, will require the applicant to complete a pre-application form. Once this form has been reviewed, the applicant will sent information via email around how to progress their application to DCU.
