Radio Training for People Aged 55+ who want to Make a Change in their Community
Near FM will be running a radio training course for people aged 55+. This course is a QQI Level 3 accredited course in 'Media Expression' and is aimed at people who would like to see a change in their community and want to be part of that change. It's about making radio that matters and giving people a chance to have their say.
The course will start on Wednesday, 7th October and will be held from 9.30am to 1pm every Wednesday morning for 10 weeks.
Over the duration of the course participants will work with the trainer to create an hour of programming that advocates for change in their community, and these programs will then be broadcast on Near FM 90.3 and then on all 27 Community Radio stations nationwide through CRAOL.
This course will facilitate participants to make great radio. Great radio is being able to engage those listening while making a compelling case for change. It will give them an introduction to advocacy, media and radio production and will hopefully inspire and equip participants to get involved in advocating for change on issues that matter to them, and enthuse them about the power of community media.
At the beginning of the course, participants will be encouraged to think about and thrash out their concerns, issues and interests to find an issue that matters to them and on which they would like to see a change brought about. This change could be a positive change (i.e. introduce something new), a negative change (i.e. remove something that is an obstacle or a negative influence) or sustaining change (i.e. expand or enrich something which already exists). Participants could advocate for a change in material circumstances, like the introduction of a new model of urban transport, or advocate for a change in attitudes, such as a change in the way that people think about climate change or about older people.
This course is FREE and places are limited.
As the course is starting in just a few weeks time, we would encourage those interested to register their interest as soon as possible.
