DCU LEGO Education Innovation Studio at IGGNITE 2017
The DCU LEGO Education Innovation Studio recently partnered with the Irish Girl Guides to deliver a series of summer camps for teenage girls aimed at promoting further education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths.
Last week, the programme was delivered to 200 Girl Guides from all over the world be at the 2017 International Girl Guide Camp IGGNITE, which took place at Rockwell College in Tipperary. A total of 1800 Girl Guides aged between 10-16 were involved in the camp this year from countries as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Canada, the US, Georgia and Zambia, as well as areas closer to home.
The Lego Education Innovation Studio based in Dublin City University’s Institute of Education designed, developed and facilitated the programme based around the theme of driverless vehicles whereby the central focus was to develop computational skills while engaging in fun, hands-on and proactive robotics workshops. The girl guides worked in teams to research autonomous driving and to solve a series of missions by designing, building and programming their own Lego robots.
