Academic biography
Siobhan graduated with a degree in Athletic Therapy and Training from Dublin City University in 2009. She completed a MSc capturing training load utilising training diaries in Gaelic footballers and a PhD examining the epidemiology and risk factors for injury in adolescent and collegiate Gaelic games. She is currently an Associate Professor, teaching on the BSc in Athletic Therapy and Training in DCU and from 2012-2016 was the programme chair for the BSc in Athletic and Rehabilitation Therapy in Technological University of the Shannon. She was the Vice President of Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland (ARTI) from 2009-2017, former Chair of the ARTI Ethics Committee and is currently the ARTI International Liaison Officer. She is currently the Vice President of the World Federation of Athletic Therapy and Training (WFATT).Dr O'Connor researches primarily in the area of injury surveillance, injury prevention and mental health. Her main research focus is examining injury in community sports particularly Gaelic games, horse racing and female sports. She has also served on the organising committees for the World Federation of Athletic Therapy and Training (WFATT) World Congress and the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine Annual Scientific Conference.
