Academic biography
Aoife is an Assistant Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance, and currently Programme Chair of the BSc Athletic Therapy & Training, and Integrated MSc in Athletic Therapy and Strength & Conditioning programme at DCU. Aoife's current interest has a focus on the biomechanical risk factors of running-related injuries, the treatment of ACL injuries and the prevention of hamstring injuries.
Aoife attained her BSc in Athletic Therapy & Training from DCU in 2011. She completed a Research Assistantship at UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic focusing on the biomechanics associated with ACL and chronic groin pain rehabilitation. She received her PhD from Dublin City University in 2022, where she investigated the biomechanical risk factors of running-related injuries. Her work primarily explores how movement patterns can influence injury risk and performance in athletes. Her research aims to enhance understanding and develop effective strategies for injury prevention and rehabilitation in sporting populations.
Outside of academia, Aoife has endeavoured to promote and grow the Athletic Therapy profession within Ireland and globally by serving various positions within Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland (ARTI) and the World Federation for Athletic Training and Therapy (WFATT). She has also provided Athletic Therapy services to both recreational and elite athletes including work with Dublin GAA and the Football Association of Ireland.
