Prof. Charlotte Burns to deliver lecture on Brexit, Climate Change and Implications for Ireland
Prof. Charlotte Burns of the University of Sheffield is going to deliver a public lecture on Brexit, Climate Change and the Implications for Ireland on Monday 17 June at 17:00. The lecture will take place in the Stokes Building on the DCU Glasnevin campus. The room location will be confirmed closer to the time.
This point at which nationalist politics, environmental regulation and Brexit intersect will form the topic of Professor Burns's lecture. The climate emergency presents an immediate policy challenge for all EU member states and Brexit presents a further dimension of uncertainty. A key issue concerns how Brexit will shape the EU's climate ambition and what kind of climate position the UK will take as (if?) it leaves and what impact its exit will have upon Ireland. Can Brexit provide opportunities for Irish climate leadership? Or will it prompt less ambition?
Prof Charlotte Burns is a Professorial Fellow in the Politics Department at the University of Sheffield. Her research focuses upon analysing the impact of major shocks upon environmental policy. She has been a research leader on the UK in Changing Europe programme, leading a team analysing the impacts of Brexit upon UK and EU environmental policy, she is co-founder of the Brexit and Environment Network and is currently a co-investigator upon a Governance after Brexit grant that is reviewing the ways in the new post-Brexit agricultural support payment system can be co-designed.
This event is open to the public and free to attend. Please register through Eventbrite.
