Book co-edited by Cornelia-Adriana Baciu, Prof. John Doyle on Post-Brexit Europe out now
Book entitled "Peace, Security and Defence Cooperation in Post-Brexit Europe - Risks and Opportunities" is now available for purchase on Springer website. Co-edited by Cornelia-Adriana Baciu, PhD. candidate and Prof. John Doyle, Executive Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dublin City University (DCU) and Director of Institute for International Conflict Resolution and Reconstruction (IICRR), the book highlights the challenges and prospects of European security cooperation, and examines the impact of Brexit on strategic aspects of security, peace, defence and foreign policy for both the European Union and the UK.
According to Cornelia-Adriana Baciu, the book is significant because it contributes to a better understanding and management of anticipated challenges and sources of instability in European and international security, associated with the Brexit process. "With research to date not having yet determined the necessary concrete steps to sustainably protect and advance the peaceful and democratic order on the European continent, this book fills a crucial scientific gap by examining key challenges and the impact of the Brexit process on primary strategic aspects of peace, security and defence cooperation," she noted.
She added that by applying research methodologies from security studies and international relations and counterfactual analysis, the book provides key findings on the future of European security order and how more resilient paradigms of peace and security could look like. "Depending on the Brexit outcome, both the EU and the UK will need to revise their grand strategies," Cornelia-Adriana Baciu concluded.
The book covers topics such as the European strategic autonomy, EU-NATO relations, the role of French-German cooperation on the future of CSDP, Northern Ireland peace process, the impacts of future security technologies and artificial intelligence, collaborative defence procurement, and EU grand strategy.
Both the e-book and hardcover editions are available and can be pre-ordered here.
