“Léiríonn bunú SEALBH? chomh tiomanta is atá DCU don Ghaeilge agus tá an-chreidiúint ag dul dóibh siúd atá taobh thiar dó. Tugann sé léargas nua don oideachas agus d’oiliúint mhúinteoirí dár scoileanna le cinntiú go mbeidh an tacaíocht acadúil is fearr ar fáil le cuidiú le seachadadh na teanga go dtí ár gcuid páistí.”

Bhí an méid seo le rá ag an Ollamh Pádraig ? Duibhir, Leas-Déan, Institiúid Oideachais DCU:

“Tá Pobal Ollscoil Chathair Bhaile ?tha Cliath thar a bheith bródúil as an méid a dhéantar anseo maidir le forbairt agus le dul chun cinn na Gaeilge agus creidimid go gcuirfidh SEALBH? go mór leis an gclú atá tuillte againn sa ghné seo den oideachas cheana féin. Creidimid go mbeidh ról lárnach ag an Ionad le cinntiú go bhfuil foghlaim agus teagasc na Gaeilge bunaithe ar thaighde agus go mbeidh sé chomh héifeachtach agus is féidir.”

Bainfidh SEALBH? leas as saineolas agus as taithí thras-dáimhe na nDaonnachtaí, na nEolaíochtaí Sóisialta agus Institiúid Oideachais Ollscoil Chathair Bhaile ?tha Cliath. Glacfaidh an fhoireann páirt i dtionscadail taighde comhoibríocha, idir náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta, a bheidh mar bhonn eolais do mhúineadh na Gaeilge ón réamhscolaíocht go dtí an ollscolaíocht agus ar líne.

Dublin City University has launched a research centre which aims to support excellence in the teaching and learning of the Irish language.

SEALBH?, meaning ‘acquisition’ in Irish, will conduct research on all aspects of acquiring Irish, with the aim of strengthening the language and ensuring that it be taught as effectively as possible to the next generation of learners.

The Centre was officially launched by Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh TD, at an event on DCU’s St. Patrick’s Campus. It will play an important role in keeping teachers, policy makers and other stakeholders informed of the most recent developments in the field of language teaching.

Speaking at the launch, Minister McHugh said:

“Establishing the Sealbhú facility is a strong statement of intent by DCU and those behind it deserve huge credit for the focus and dedication they are putting into the Irish language. It will bring a new dimension to education and in preparing teachers for our schools to ensure that they have the best academic support to help pass our language on to our children.”

Professor Padraig ? Duibhir, Deputy Dean, DCU Institute of Education, commented:

“The DCU community is very proud of the contribution it is making in the promotion and development of Irish and believes that the establishment of SEALBH? will add to our reputation in this area. We believe that this Centre will play a significant role in ensuring that the teaching and learning of Irish is research driven, and as effective as possible.”

SEALBH? will draw on a wealth of expertise across the faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences and the DCU Institute of Education. Staff will engage in collaborative research projects with a national and international focus, which will inform the teaching of Irish in all settings from early childhood to primary, post-primary, third level and online.
