Job Opportunity for Assistant Professor in Environmental Geography and Climate Change
Assistant Professor in Environmental Geography and Climate Change School of History and Geography Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Permanent position.

The School of History and Geography:
The School of History and Geography is an ambitious, research-intensive School in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. While possessing and promoting an international perspective, the School has a particular focus on Ireland ¨C its geography, history and landscape. The combining of History and Geography has created a School that is unique in Ireland in its interdisciplinary range and research potential, and that is well positioned to play a leading role, nationally and internationally, in the disciplines of History, Geography and Irish Studies. Both History and Geography are offered on the Bachelor of Arts: Joint Honours programme, where they are consistently among the most popular subjects. The School teaches History on the Bachelor of Religious Education and History, and contributes to the B.Ed (primary). At postgraduate level both subjects offer a PhD programme; the School delivers an MA in History and contributes to the MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society. The School has a growing and dynamic postgraduate community.
The School of History and Geography anticipates appointing an Assistant Professor in Environmental Geography and Climate Change, commencing on 1 September 2020. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the delivery of the School¡¯s taught programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level and to contribute to the identification, development and delivery of new programmes. The School offers excellent opportunities for candidates to teach within their own area of research specialisation and to supervise PhD candidates. Skills and Experience
Applicants for the position must have completed a PhD in physical / environmental geography or cognate discipline with a relevant focus for this role. It is preferable that applicants have relevant experience of university teaching at lecturer/assistant professor level. The successful candidate will contribute to the school¡¯s teaching of the undergraduate geography programme, participate in teaching GIS, and assist with developing new offerings. The postholder will be required to teaching one or more undergraduate modules in an area different to their research specialism. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong dedication to academic research and possess a track-record of international peer-reviewed publication. The candidate should be capable of working in a team and contributing to the ongoing development of the School¡¯s teaching and research agenda through the identification and pursuit of research funding.

Salary Scales:
Assistant Professor above bar: €53,101 - €84,492.
* Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will be made on the appropriate point of the Assistant Professor Above Bar salary scale in line with current Government pay policy.
