Geography Awareness Week 2019
Geographers at DCU celebrated Geography Awareness Week 2019 with a public event on the 21st November.
Jointly organised by Dr Ruth McManus from the School of History and Geography and Dr Susan Pike from the School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies, this was the third in an on-going series of 'Geography through the Ages' events. Addressing the theme of Topical Geography, speakers included Mr Jim Ryan and pupils Callum, Aidan and Seán from Sacred Heart BNS, Ballygall, Ms Valerie Mahon from the Irish Sign Language STEM project, Ms Niamh Lowry from High School, Rathgar and Dr Adrian Kavanagh, Maynooth University. With topics ranging from electoral geography and Eurovision voting patterns to challenging student learners and engaging pupils through outdoor experiences, the evening provided an illustration of the wealth and diversity of geography. President of the Geographical Society of Ireland, Adrian Kavanagh, commented on the cross-faculty initiative, which will continue with another event in Spring 2020.
