Entrepreneurship

At Portlaw National School, we embrace the four pillars of a DCU Changemaker School—leadership, innovation, social responsibility, and wellbeing—through our collaborative community projects. One of our most impactful initiatives is the partnership with the Tidy Towns committee, aimed at beautifying our town’s streets.

Leadership and Innovation: Our 4th class children take charge in the ‘Make Life Not Litter’ campaign, showcasing their leadership and innovative thinking. They plant seeds that grow into beautiful flowers, which they then repot into window boxes. Each child signs their window box, adding a personal touch to their contribution.

Social Responsibility: This project fosters a deep sense of social responsibility as children actively participate in enhancing their local environment. By delivering the window boxes to every house on the main street of Portlaw, the children make a tangible impact on their community, promoting environmental stewardship and civic pride.

Wellbeing and Entrepreneurship: The campaign also promotes wellbeing by encouraging outdoor activity and a connection with nature. Additionally, it nurtures an entrepreneurial spirit as children manage the entire process—from planting to delivering—demonstrating the value of creativity, hard work, and community service.

Through these efforts, Portlaw National School not only brightens the streets with blooms and colours for the summer season but also instils essential values and skills in our children , preparing them to be the Changemakers of tomorrow.
