Jim Doyle retires from the School of Computing
At a special event, the current Head of the School, Dr Andrew McCarren, took a moment to acknowledge the remarkable dedication Jim has shown to the School over the years, a dedication that has been invaluable to him personally as an undergraduate, postgraduate, academic colleague, and now Head of the School.
"Jim is not just a colleague but a pillar of support in our team. His calm demeanour in times of uncertainty and his unwavering presence whenever help was needed has been invaluable to the school. His journey at DCU, where he met his wife, Deirdre, is a testament to the deep roots he has in our community.
Jim is a problem solver, and in times of budget cuts and pandemics, he has always demonstrated an ability to come up with solutions that helped the School of Computing improve its student and staff experience. This will now take him into his new chapter, where he will tackle the “to-do list” at home".
Jim responded with an acknowledgement to colleagues within the school and across the faculty for all the support over the years and a special mention to his wife, Deirdre, for her unwavering support. Jim, too, enjoyed the student experience in the past, and two of his lecturers, David Sinclair and Jane Kernan, were at the event.
A farewell from all the School and wider community, along with a few names from the past: Michael Ryan, Michael Scott and Mary, Gordon Rickerby, and Eamonn McGonigle.
