Sophie Popplewell
I undertook the MSc in PR and Strategic Communications in 2021. I chose the programme as I had decided to focus on public relations as a career path following my broader undergraduate degree in Communications. I cannot recommend this programme highly enough. I entered the course with enthusiasm, but a relatively weak understanding of the world of PR, and left entirely prepared to enter the workforce.
Aspects of this course I particularly enjoyed include the level of group-project work involved, the mock work tasks and the level of support given to us by lecturers given the small class group size. I even enjoyed creating my thesis – a task I once thought to be majorly daunting – owing to the level of support offered throughout the journey. The work placement was invaluable also in terms of getting to put the theory you learn into practice and getting the chance to demonstrate your new capabilities solidly on your CV.
I’m almost two years out of the course now and happily working as a Senior Account Executive for an agency in Dublin, and I owe this to the MSc in PR and Strategic Communications and associated lecturers entirely!
In terms of advice for incoming students, I would say: absorb as much of the case study analyses done in class as possible – you’ll reflect on these in years to come when encountering real scenarios.
