This course appealed to me as the top journalism qualification in Ireland which would enhance my ability to work in my dream career and present me with the best possible chance of employment that I could have hoped for. I have always had a passion for truth and truth-telling, so learning the skills of how to dig to reveal that truth through objective and unbiased research was the ideal way to achieve this, and that is why DCU was the only place I wanted to complete this course.
DCU has the most up-to-date technology and systems required for modern journalism, and experts in this technology are on hand at any moment to help you learn the ropes and realise your potential. There is maximum focus on learning how to work in the worlds of print and digital journalism, mobile journalism, radio journalism and television. The lecturers are the best of the best, and every module was fulfilling.
I remember how approachable the lecturers were, and how every class was hands-on and involved me in real life scenarios I would expect to encounter in my journalism career. In such scenarios, your adrenaline is pumping as you try to place yourself in the shoes of a newsroom worker, especially during news days. It is news days which stand out as the best memories as you work as part of a team to put out the news by a particular hour, no excuses. This enhanced my time efficiency skills and allowed me to see just how much I was learning in class.
As a result of the internship programme, I was accepted into the Irish Mirror where my skill set in article-writing was appreciated and noticed. I was given such a solid skill set from my time in DCU that I was kept on full-time in a professional capacity after my internship period ended.
