Bohemian FC and DCU to develop all-weather pitch at the DCU Sports Campus
Bohemian FC and Dublin City University today welcomed sports capital grant award, applied for with the support of the FAI, of €300,000 for the development of an all-weather pitch at the DCU Sports Campus.
This pitch will be developed solely for football and have co-usage for DCU Soccer and Bohemian FC. Access and usage will also be provided to increase participation across multiple groups, including disadvantaged groups.
The announcement was made today by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht Sports and Media.
Dublin City University and Bohemian Football Club last year agreed a long-term partnership, one which will leave deep and lasting connections in football, social inclusion, social outreach and academic programme collaboration.
This partnership has enabled the DCU Sports Campus on the Ballymun Road to become Bohemians¡¯ training base, with the two north Dublin institutions working together to further develop this world-class facility.
Professor Daire Keogh, President of Dublin City University said:
¡°DCU and Bohs share a deep commitment to our communities and a passionate belief in the positive impact of sport on people¡¯s lives.
Today¡¯s successful grant award, in partnership with Bohemians, builds on DCU¡¯s success in supporting high performance sporting achievement as well as promoting sport for all.
This development promises to be hugely beneficial for football, in DCU and across the North Dublin region.¡±
BFC COO Daniel Lambert said:
¡°In our discussions with various ministers and elected representatives, as well as our key community and sporting partners DCU, we have seen amazing support for Bohemian FC and our sustainable growth across multiple areas.
This has multiple facets across the male and female game, as well as the utilisation of sport in many areas outside of the game, with inclusiveness and a strong social conscience for the needs of our shared communities at its heart. We would like to thank Minister Martin and Minster Chambers for this allocation. We would also like to thank both DCU and the FAI for their passion and expertise in securing today¡¯s grant award.
This marks a brilliant start to 2022 at a time when the Bohemian Football Club has never been stronger. We hope that 2022 will also see the final major grant allocation to Dalymount Park as a municipal sports and community hub for the Northside of our city."
