6th Annual DCU Volunteer Expo
The 6th Annual DCU Volunteer Expo was held at the Hub at Dublin City University on Thursday, 2nd October, 2014. The Expo offers a unique opportunity for students, staff and local residents to meet with local, national and international volunteer organisations to learn first-hand how they can make a difference through volunteering.
The Expo is organised by DCU Volunteer Committee and DCU Student Union.
The Expo was officially opened by DCU President Prof Brian MacCraith, followed by Karina Howley, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at KPMG, and Seamus Mulconry, Executive Director at Philanthropy Ireland, who also presented the winning DCU students with awards for the DCU Giving 1% photography competition.
This year, over 60 community and voluntary organisations attended the DCU Volunteer Expo, including, among others, Age Action, Focus Ireland, Special Olympics Ireland, Amnesty International, Dublin City Volunteer Centre, Ballymun Regional Youth Resource, Irish Aid and DCU Intergenerational Learning Programme.
Over 1,500 students, staff, community representatives and members of the general public visited the Expo throughout the day.
Ailbhe Garvey, Chair of DCU Volunteer Committee, said: "This year was another huge success, as our exhibitors attracted a higher number of staff and students than we've ever had before… DCU prides itself on its commitment to civic and community engagement and the success of the Expo is a testament to this".
