Academic biography
Hasim Ibrahim studied Chemistry at the University of Marburg, Germany, and as an ERASMUS exchange student at Imperial College London and graduated with an MSc in Chemistry from Marburg. Research during this period included a project in organometallic chemistry with Dr. Brent Young at Imperial College and an MSc thesis in natural product synthesis under the supervision of Prof. Thorsten Bach at Marburg. He returned to London and earned his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Sue Gibson at King’s College London, before undertaking postdoctoral research with Prof. Antonio Togni at ETH Zurich, Prof. Scott Denmark at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Prof. Peter Kündig at the University of Geneva. In 2006, he moved to Dublin to start his independent career, first at University College Dublin, followed by a period at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and since 2019 at Dublin City University. His research interests centre around the development of new synthetic methods using organomain group chemistry with an emphasis on catalytic asymmetric reactions.
