MEDeng has direct access to excellent infrastructure and resources within the laboratories of the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at DCU.

Specific expertise and core capabilities in the School relate to:

  • Material Synthesis
  • Material Characterisation
  • Functional Assessment and Evaluation
  • Theoretical and Computational Modelling
  • Surface Engineering and Coating Technology
  • Additive Manufacturing

To enhance the development and advance the multidisciplinary ethos of the MEDeng Centre – access is also provided to core capabilities that are centrally located at the Nano-Bioanalytical Research Facility (NRF) and the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology (NICB).

The NRF is a purpose built 3000m? advanced core facility that allows for the integration and connection of technical capabilities and equipment within DCU, bringing together expertise to create core capabilities in:

  • Nanosynthesis
  • Nanometrology
  • Micro and Nano fabrication
  • NanoBioPhotonics
  • Analytical Characterisation
  • Antibody Production

The NCIB offers a range of expertise and capabilities to undertake fundamental and applied research in cellular biology, cancer, biotechnology, molecular cell biology, ocular diseases and biological chemistry. Specific NCIB core competencies and facilities include:

  • Proteomics
  • Cell Culture
  • Cell Characterisation
  • Genomics and Bioinformatics
  • Functional Genomics
  • Synthetic Chemistry
