Mohd Tahir Ganie
Tahir is a PhD student of Politics and International Relations. He was born and raised in Indian-controlled Kashmir, which is a site of protracted armed conflict since the late 1980’s. Currently a fourth year PhD student of Politics and International Relations at School of Law and Government (DCU), Tahir is researching Kashmiri youth narratives and political activism in the post-2008 period. Before coming to DCU, he worked as a correspondent and feature writer for Kashmir’s largest English daily, Greater Kashmir, during 2010-2012. A regular contributor to magazines and newspapers, his articles have appeared in The Japan Times, The Caravan, The Express Tribune, Kindle Magazine, IAPS Dialogue, and in different newspapers and magazines in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Tahir was part of the organising committee for the First Post-Graduate Conference on South Asia which was held at Dublin City University’s All Hallows Campus on 26 June 2017.

Thesis title: The Language of Contention: The Case of the Post-2008 Kashmiri Youth Narratives
Research Overview:
Employing frame analytical perspective, as developed in social movement studies, Tahir’s PhD dissertation explores the post-2008 youth narratives in Indian-controlled Kashmir in terms of how Kashmiri youth frame the Kashmir conflict and significant political events (like mass uprisings of 2008, 2010, and 2016) in their published accounts. What frames of references dominate the youth narratives and how through certain frames a particularised conceptualisation of the Kashmir conflict and Kashmiri national identity is affirmed.
