Evolution of Ireland's Physical Landscape

The Irish physical landscape is made up of an intertwining series of elements, and it is onto this landscape that humans have placed their imprint over the past nine thousand years. Yet, what has made this landscape so ¡®Irish¡¯? What are the elements that, together, constitute the raw material for the landscape that surrounds us?

The purpose of this micro-credential is to introduce students to the various elements that make up the physical landscape of Ireland. It is broken into three broad areas ¨C (a) the bedrock foundation; (b) the glacial legacy on the Irish landscape and (c) Irish Holocene.

You will develop knowledge and skills in map reading and interpretation (particularly using online maps and resources), and linking various elements of Irish physical geography.

The micro-credential will be taught in a hybrid fashion, with both recorded material, reading material and three in-person sessions. You will receive regular communications from the coordinator, with suggestions of how to organise your learning.

The assessment for this module will involve a creative assignment on local landscape, regular reflections on your learning, and the completion of the tasks for the micro-credential.

This micro-credential will be of interest to those who work in the area of local heritage, environmental heritage and conservation.

• The HCI Pillar 3 Micro-credential Learner Fee Subsidy is available to a fixed number of applicants.

Please Note: Applicants may not apply to take more than 30 credits of micro-credentials.

Applicants should hold at least the equivalent of a 2.2 undergraduate degree in any discipline

1.  A scanned copy of your passport
2. Certified Academic Transcripts for each and every year of study with English translation, if applicable
